Alexander Funeral Home’s beginning dates back to 1908 on Main Street in Lafayette when Mr. Charlie C. Alexander began building coffins and offering funeral services for the bereaved. He began laying the foundation for what is now Macon County’s oldest funeral establishment, Alexander Funeral Home.
For twenty six years Mr. Paul and Mrs. Helen Walker managed the funeral home and continued caring for the families in a respectable and caring manner. Mr. Jerry Capps, who started working at the funeral home in 1969, is currently the manager of Alexander Funeral Home. In June of 2008, Guthrie and Mary Hammer along with Brad Tuttle, all natives of Macon County, purchased the business.
More recently Judd Sellars, of Lebanon, purchased Alexander Funeral Home. Sellars also owns Sellars Funeral Homes in Lebanon, Mount Juliet, and Hendersonville, Alexander Funeral Home and Family Heritage Funeral in Gallatin, TN.
Sellars stated, “I call Brad Tuttle up a year ago and told him if they ever decide they want to go a different direction with the funeral home, I would love to take it off your hands. Things just fell into place and the timing just seemed to work out. My thing is I have great staff here, they all do a phenomenal job. There will be no personnel change, just trying to bring the facility up to par with some remodeling, and new furniture. I am all about service. We’ve established a good reputation. People know when they come here they will be in a nice facility and have great service.”
