MCHS Tigers win opening district game to advance in tourney

The Macon County High School Tigers learned the meaning of prayer shot Saturday night as they won the right to advance in the District 8AA tournament when a three-point shot was thrown up by Junior Nathan Harris with 1.1 seconds on the clock.

When the ball dropped, MCHS broke a 49 - 49 tie and claimed their first win in the District8AA tournament.

MCHS went up early in the game, going ahead 21 - 9 in the first quarter.

The second quarter was Station Camp's chance to catch up as they outscored the Tigers 15 - 8.

At the half, MCHS went into the locker room with a 29 - 24 lead.

After the break, Station Camp came back out to outscore MCHS 15 - 12. The Tigers went into the fourth quarter with a narrow lead, 41 - 39.

With seconds left on the clock, the score was tied 49 - 49. When Harris sank his sixth 3-pointer in the game, the Tigers moved ahead to win the game by a final of 52 - 49.

This game set a career high mark for Nathan Harris, who put 30 points on the scoreboard for MCHS.

Other Tigers scoring in the game included James Law with 8 points, Nick Howser with 5 points, Johnathan West with 4 points, Jarrod Williamson with 3 points and Josh Kirts adding 2 points.

This win advanced MCHS to the next round of the District 8 AA tournament.

The Tigers are scheduled to travel to Nashville on Tuesday night to face off against David Lipscomb in a 6:30 0.m. match-up.

The winner of this game will advance to the semi-final round scheduled for Thursday, February 27 at 5:30 p.m. at MCHS.

The winner of the Thursday 5:30 p.m. game will advance to the Championship game on Friday, February 28th, at 8:30 p.m. The loser of the Thursday 5:30 p.m. game will play in the consolation game set for 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
