Operation Always Ready, an area wide project of the Nashville Area Red Cross, will help lead individuals, families, schools, and businesses to prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies and disasters.
With little or no warning, disasters can strike. In Middle Tennessee, we expect tornadoes, house fires, ice storms, floods, and industrial accidents. Unfortunately, we can no longer ignore the emerging threat of bio-terrisom and weapons of mass destruction.
The Macon County Chapter has a few of the disaster kits on hand and are able to pick up more as requests come in.
Kits are made to care for four persons, two persons, and one person.
The Macon County Chapter will also be giving away a disaster kit in the near future to someone who makes a $1 donation to the group.
The four person kit sells for $75. The four person kit includes: 8 food bars, 6 two gallon water storage containers, 4 tissue packs, 4 body warmers, 1 - 2D cell flashlight, 1 whistle, 4 sanitary napkins, 2 bio-hazard bags w/twist ties, 4 emergency blankets, 4 ponchos with hood, 1 - 12 hour light stick, 1 D-cell batteries 2-pack, 1 pocket first aid kit, 1 AM/FM radio w/batteries, and 1 back pack.
The two person kit sells for $55. The two person kit includes: 4 food bars, 3 two gallon water storage containers, 2 tissue packs, 2 body warmers, 1 - 2D cell flashlight, 1 whistle, 2 sanitary napkins, 1 bio-hazard bag w/twist tie, 2 emergency blankets, 2 ponchos with hood, 1 - 12 hour light stick, 1 D-cell batteries 2-pack, 1 pocket first aid kit, 1 AM/FM radio w/batteries, and 1 back pack.

"As always our Red Cross chapter wishes to say thanks to Macon County for all donations and support over the years."
In the months since, September 11, the Nashville Area Red Cross developed Operation Always Ready. This three year project began in March 2003 and is aimed at improving the Nashville area's ability to provide relief to victims of disaster and help Middle Tennessee prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. It's about making homes, schools and businesses the safest they can be.
It's about preparing fro the unexpected.
What does it mean to be BBMG?
Step One: Build or buy a Disaster Kit. In addition to a comprehensive first aid kit, a Disaster Kit will contain items that you will need if isolated for a few days without water, food or electricity, or if you are told to evacuate on short notice.
Step Two: Make a disaster plan. When the tress of a disaster strikes, it's not a time to think, but it is a time to do. Your home, school or business needs a plan in place, where everyone knows what to do.
Step Three: Get Trained. Our community needs many individuals who are trained in first aid, CPR and AED. Businesses need Automated External Defibrillator Training. When the community-disaster strikes, we need trained Disaster Relief Volunteers to help shoulder the burden.
Step Four: Give Blood. regular volunteer donors ensure a blood supply that meets all needs, all the time. Blood really is the gift of life.
Anyone wishing to buy a kit or having questions concerning the kits can call Ed Swanson at 666-2403 or 572-2403. As the current supply of kits are sold, additional kits will be obtained from the Nashville chapter.
