Funeral services for Mamie Rush Purcell, age 91, of the Hermitage Springs Community in Clay County, TN., were conducted Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Phillip Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs, TN., with Kirk Dodson officiating. Pallbearers were Donnie Birdwell, Kenny Birdwell, Clinton Hill, Dennis Purcell, Nathan Purcell, Brian Goolsby, and Michael Goolsby. Interment followed in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery.

Mamie passed away Monday morning, August 4, 2003 at her residence.

A native of Clay County, TN., the daughter of the late Sam and Tennessee Bean Rush. She was married to Mosey Purcell on December 24, 1929, who survives. She was preceded in death by sister, Amy Pedigo; brothers: Bedford and Flevel Rush; great-grandson: Steven Purcell and great-granddaughter: Jennifer Purcell. She was a homemaker and a member of the Milestown Church of Christ.

Survivors besides her husband of 73 years include daughter, Creola (Kenneth) Birdwell; sons: Ronald (Doris) Purcell all of Hermitage Springs; Harold (Virginia) Purcell, Greenwood, IN., sisters: Reba McCarter, Hermitage Springs, Elsie Green, Horse Cave, KY.
