Alice L. Scruggs, 79, of 7399 Old Hwy. 52, Westmoreland, TN, passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette. The Illinois native was born January 16, 1924, a daughter of the late Joseph Wiseman and Pearl Thompson Collins. She was a homemaker, a member of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, and was married on Nov. 16, 1937 to Edgar Scruggs, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Arvid Austin, Lafayette, Kathy & Robert A. Reed, Hartsville; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie & Katie Scruggs, Westmoreland; four half-sisters, Jo Carolyn Watson, Gallatin, Helen Stokes, Betty McCool and Shirley Branson, all of Nashville; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Collins, Lafayette; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Cecil Wiseman; a half-brother, Reece Collins; and two sisters, Elizabeth Sullivan and Margaret Helson.

Funeral services for Alice L. Scruggs were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, 2 p.m. at Fairview Missionary Baptist Church with Elder James Ray Lawson, Elder Jackie Stagner and Elder Harold Dean Linville officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Austin, Shane Reed, Shawn Scruggs, Raymond Hudson, Gary Brawner and Ricky Vance.

Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette was in charge of arrangements.
