Macon County Commissioners met in regular session Monday, February 2, with several items on the agenda.

The first item was to approve budget amendments one through five including budget amendment five for $1,200 for inservice training of the new Willette Fired Department. According to Commissioner Jerry Ray, the building is near completion and the members are discussing the purchase of a fire engine. The fire department will be a great help to the community.

The commissioners also approved a proclamation supporting Child Passenger Safety week. The week is scheduled for February 8-14.

Resolutions one through three were passed, including resolution number two to request unclaimed balance of accounts remitted to the State Treasurer under the unclaimed property act.

Resolution number three urges the General Assembly to amend the general law to allow counties and municipalities the choice of whether or not to operate hot mix asphalt plants.

Road Supervisor Glenn Ray stated that a public hearing needed to be set on the proposed idea to close Gann Hollow Road. County Mayor Glen Donoho stated that he would advertise for a public hearing and action would not be taken until the voice of the community was heard.

Jackie Rich and Ben Bray spoke to the commissioners concerning a road that is allegedly part of Hawkins Road and according to Jackie Rich is part of Hawkins Road. Rich wanted the commissioners to state that Hawkins Road was indeed a county road so he would be able to sale the property. According to him, the property is part of Hawkins Road because there is no easement or right away to the property. The road, however is closed off by a private gate. This matter was deferred until commissioners can further investigate the road.

Donoho reported on the money owed to Columbia Gulf and Texas Eastern. According to Donnie Morgan, County Trustee, Columbia Gulf has agreed to allow the county to remove approximately $14,000 per year from their annual taxes until the problem is settled. However, Texas Eastern has not agreed to this.

Commissioner Billy Bransford will speak at the Lafayette City Council meeting to request that the city help in the cost of the building of a new school. This meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3.

Due to the holiday on the third Monday night the commissioners will meet in regular session Monday, February 9.
