Virginia Lee Lawrence Atwell, 68, of Lafayette, Tennessee, passed away Monday, November 1, 2004 at Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, Tennessee. The Macon County, Tennessee native was born Sunday, September 27, 1936, the daughter of the late Aubrey Wesley Lawrence and Leona Ellen Meador Lawrence. She was a 1954 graduate of Macon County High School, a member of Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church, Lafayette Chapter #379 Order of Eastern Star, and Happy Homemakers F.C.E. She worked at McClard Drugs for over 30 years and retired from Rite Aid Pharmacy. On September 30, 1955 she was united in marriage to Loryn Atwell.

She is survived by her husband of over 49 years, Loryn Atwell, long-time Lafayette Fire Chief and current Lafayette City Councilman; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Wynona and Eddy Clayborne; Audrey and Rev. Terry Howser, all of the Haysville Community; Melinda and Jeff Downing, Fountain Run, Kentucky; 6 grandchildren and a great-grandchild, Gavin Clayborne.

Funeral services for Virginia Lee Lawrence Atwell were conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, November 4, 2004 at Alexander-Goad Funeral Home with Eld. Richard Wilson officiating. Burial was in Haysville Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Wesley Clayborne, Orry Clayborne, Will Downing, Jerryn Howser, Gerald Lawrence, Earl Lawrence, and Eld. Jeremy Yokley. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Driver, George Shockley, and J. L. Watson.

Alexander-Goad Funeral Home in Lafayette, TN was in charge of arrangements.
