The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs continued their winning ways last week, as they opened up their district schedule. The Lady Dawgs to continue to get strong play from several players and on any given night they have five or six girls that can beat you all by themselves.

RBS traveled to Clay County on Tuesday, November 29th. The Lady Bulldogs of Clay County are usually one of the top teams around this area, and competes year in and year out for the District 7A championship. This game figured to be a good measuring stick for Red Boiling Springs to decide whether they were contenders or pretenders.

The Lady Dawgs answered the call and made a statement doing it as they outscored Clay County 37-27 in the first half. RBS looked just as dominant in the second half and proved why everyone was whispering about the LadyDawgs this year. RBS outscored Clay County 18-11 in the third quarter and 20-14 in the fourth quarter to cruise to a 75-52 victory.

Red Boiling Springs played a total team game and had nine players score in the game. Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was Ashton Gentry with 17 points. Kelley Rich and Rachel Painter also got into double-figures with 16 and 12 points respectively. Also scoring for RBS was Caylie Dickens with 9, Whitney Jordan with 8, Laken Leonard with 6, Tess Copas with 3, Ciara Green with 2 and Katelyn Jenkins with 2. This was a huge win for the Lady Dawgs, but they had to quickly turn their attention to a very pesky Pickett County team who has a couple of state championships in basketball of their own.

The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs hosted the Lady Bobcats of Pickett County on Friday, December 2nd. After the game against Clay County I thought that RBS would roll over Pickett County, but the Lady Cats had otherplans!

RBS came out still feeling good from their last win and jumped up early on the Lady Cats. The Lady Dawgs carried a 37-20 lead into halftime and it appeared they were just going to run away with this thing. However, Pickett County came out hot in the second half and outscored RBS 21-5 in the third quarter to pull within one heading into the final period of play. However, Coach White got his players back just in time as they outscored the Lady Cats 17-10 in the fourth quarter to win by a final of 59-51.

This game was much closer than what I thought it would be, but I think the Lady Bulldogs just had a lapse in the third quarter and allowed Pickett to get back into the game. RBS is clearly the better team! Kelley Rich continued her hot play as she led Red Boiling Springs in scoring with 19 points. Whitney Jordan also got into double-figures with 13 points of her own. Also scoring for RBS was Rachel Painter with 8, Ashton Gentry with 7, Laken Leonard with6 and Caylie Dickens with 6.

The Lady Bulldogs now stand at 7-0 overall on the season and 2-0 in District 7A action. The Lady Dawgs have two non-district games this week as they host Gordonsville tonight and travel to Westmoreland on Friday. The Lady Bulldogs then find out just where they stand in District 7A as they travel to Jackson County next Tuesday night!
