The opportunity to vote early in the Republican Primary and Lafayette City election will come to an end this Thursday, April 27 at 4:30. The election commission office will remain open until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26.
Regular election day voting begins again on Tuesday, May 2 when the polls open at 9:00 a.m. They will remain open until 7:00 p.m. A sample ballot appears on page five, section B of this week's paper.
Macon County schools will be in session on election day. Westside, Central Elementary, Lafayette Elementary, Macon County Junior High, and Red Boiling Springs High Schools are all used as polling places. Voting at Red Boiling Springs High will be in the Ag building next to the horse rink. The election office has already made arrangements with the schools to conduct business as non intrusively as possible during school hours.
Running for three seats on the Lafayette City Council are candidates Ruby Flowers, Carl Hudgens, Charlie Jones, Ronnie Krantz, Steve Turner and Jerry Wilmore. The three seats will be filled by the three candidates with the most votes.
Joe Ferguson, Bennie Hudgens, and Keith Tillman are all on the Republican Primary Ballot for the office of sheriff. The winner of that race will go up against independent candidates Steven Evans and Mark Gammons in August.
In the race for Trustee, Diane Cook opposes incumbent Donnie Morgan. The winner of the primary will go on to face Democratic candidate Jerry Hargrove in the August 3 election.
Billy Bransford and Ronnie A. Morgan face off in the primary for 1st district commissioner. The winner of that race will appear unopposed on the August ballot.

Complete voting results for the Republican Primary and Lafayette city election will appear on our website, www.maconcountytimes.com on Wednesday, May 3. In early voting, at press time, 376 people had voted in the Lafayette city election; 13 by absentee ballot. In the republican primary, 1,087 people had voted early, 55 by absentee ballot.
