Funeral services for Genie Akins were conducted Friday, July 14, at 2 p.m. at the Woodard Funeral Home in Westmoreland with Brother Guthrie Gregory, Brother Doug Curtis, and Brother Ricky White officiating. Interment in the Rocky Mound Cemetery with full military honors. Honorary pallbearers were his breakfast buddies at Hardees, Sonny Perdue, Jodi Swindle, Bobby Swindle, Carl Ray Pedigo, Bill Goolsby, Mike Hammock, Chris Bullington, and Galen Bullington. Active pallbearers were Ray Goad, Harold Carr, Jerry Stone, Steve Garrison, Ronnie Harrison, Carl Harrison, John Key, and Cory Scott.
He was the son of the late Virgil and Eunice Pike Akins who preceded him in death. He was married to Eurine Perdue Akins who also preceded him in death.
He is survived by (like his own children) Forrest and Sarah Bullington, Sharon and Scott Day, of Lafayette, Beverly and John Key of Portland, Kayla Day and Corey Scott, Lois and Carl Harrison of Westmoreland; daughter and son-in-law Doris and Jerry Yates of Westmoreland; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Sandy and Terry Goad of Lafayette, great grandson, Zachery Goad of Lafayette; step-brother Pete Hammock of Nashville, sisters, Gail (James) Garrison of Westmoreland, Virginia Carr of Westmoreland.
He was preceded in death by his brother Willard Akins and sisters Willie Mae Stone and Hollis Harrison, a great-nephew Dalton Webb.
