She was preceded in death by husband, Charlie Payne; son, Arthur Payne; daughter-in-law, Joan Payne; daughter, Ruth Payne Carman; and son-in-law, Robert Larkey Carman.
She is survived by granddaughters, Anne (Andy) Payne Hayes of Gallatin and Lynn (Steve) Payne Haun of Gallatin; and niece, Ann (Lee) Swift of Panagorda, FL.
Born April 26, 1903, the only daughter of Charlie and Minnie (Holleman) West. Born and raised in Defeated Creek. A 1923 graduate of Smith County High School and attended college in Murfreesboro. She taught school for several years before her own children were born. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Methodist Church and lived at the Sundial Farm in Hartsville for over 60 years. She enjoyed cooking, playing the piano and reading all the local newspapers on a daily basis.
Funeral services for Lucille West Payne were held in the chapel of Anthony Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2006. Interment was in the Dixon Springs Cemetery. Andy Hayes, Steve Haun, and Stanley, Jason and Blake Holder served as pallbearers.
