Joan Steenbergen Dawes Rodriguez died early Thursday March 13, as a result of injuries sustained in the February 5th tornado.

Joan was initially taken to Vanderbilt Trauma Center, and was on life support for a considerable time in the Nashville hospital. She underwent multiple surgeries including repairing a broken pelvis, knee, and a foot that had been crushed, requiring three steel plates to repair.

Ms. Joanie remained in Vanderbilt Hospital for one month and was recently released to The Palace in Red Boiling Springs, where she was undergoing therapy and had been able to sit up for a few minutes at a time.

Joan Rodrequez was a resident of the Brattontown Community. Her death brings the official total of Macon County tornado fatalities to fourteen, although this does not include the Welch family, killed in a tragic six vehicle traffic crash associated with tornado clean up.

Funeral Services were held March 16 at Goad Funeral Home Chapel in Scottsville, KY. For complete obituary information please see section 4-C of this week's paper.
