The Macon County Saddle Club kicked off the spring season with the first open show on Saturday March 29. Training barrels and poles were run prior to the competition. Due to the weather only the 4-D barrels was completed.

In Open 4-D barrels Dave McClanahan took the lead winning 1-D with 16.318 seconds. Terry Wooten earned 2-D with 16.915 seconds. Coming in at 17.418 seconds, Tracy Cornwell placed 3-D. Brandon Ashworth placed 4-D at 18.325 seconds.

The objective of barrel racing is to go around the three barrels, not knocking any down, and doing it as fast as possible.

Teamwork and timing with the horse tracking a cloverleaf pattern is critical to the sucess.

Future open show dates are:

April 12 with $1000 added and 80% payback (rain date April 26th)

May 25 with 100% payback

August 16 with $1000 added and 80% payback.

The regular Macon county Saddle Club season begins the third Saturday April 19. For more information about the club or events contact Jeff Ashworth at 615-633-1987.
