Velma Meador Polston was born Saturday, December 16, 1922 in Macon County, TN, one of ten siblings born to the late Joe Wilson and Minnie Adge Meador. She departed this life on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Knollwood Manor in Lafayette at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 18 days. Graveside services for Velma Polston were held on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Anderson and Son Memorial Park in Lafayette with Elder Jeff Blackwell officiating. On December 21, 1940, she married Donnie “Carnell” Polston, sharing 57 years together until his death on July 24, 1998. She was a member of the Lafayette Church of Christ and was retired from the former Cain Sloan Department Store in Nashville, where she had worked as a salesperson. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Louie, Ernest, Herbert and Paul Meador, and 3 sisters, Jewel Haley, Georgie Guinn and Ruby Swindle. She is survived by, son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Evelyn Polston, grandson and his wife, Aric and Shannon Polston, all of Bowling Green, KY, and sisters, Dorothy Brooks of Indianapolis, IN and Bonnie Walton of Nashville, TN.
