Elder C. L. “Dee” Russell, Sr. age 88 of Gallatin passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012. Funeral Service was held Monday, April 2 at 2:30 p.m. from the chapel of Family Heritage Funeral Home with Brother Jerry Russell and Brother Michael Nesbitt officiating. Interment followed in Crestview Memorial Park with Scott Russell, Chris Smith, Brannon Smith, Jonathan Hall, Chad Hiett and Bobby Butler serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation was held Sunday, April 1 from 1 -8 p.m. and Monday, April 2 from noon until time of service. Brother Dee was born March 22, 1924 in Macon County, TN son of the late Jeffrey and Virgie Mai Patterson Russell. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Ernest Russell, Odie Russell and Wesley Russell; sisters, Eva Burgett Daniels and Odessa Nash and son-in-law, Bobby Stone. He is survived by wife, Helen Erlene Scruggs Russell; children, Gail Stone, Cordis Russell, Jr. (Connie) and Tina Smith (Mike) all of Gallatin; grandchildren, Sherry Hall (Dewayne) of Bethpage, Sheila Stone of Gallatin, Scott Russell (Lindsay) of Gallatin, Chris Smith of Portland and Brannon Smith of Gallatin and great grandchildren, Jonathan Lee Hall, Ella Grace Russell and Aniston Faith Russell. Brother Dee’s first church and last church to pastor was Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church. In the interim years, he pastored at White Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Rock Bridge Missionary Baptist Church, Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Buffalo Springs Missionary Baptist Church and several missions. Also, Brother Dee was a barber by trade and a member of King Solomon Masonic Lodge #94.
