RBS Bulldogs Play Jackson County Devils in Invitational Tournament

The Red Boiling Springs Bulldogs played two games during the Macon County Invitational Tournament on Sat., April 7.

The first game was against the Jackson County Devils. As the visiting team, the Bulldogs were at bat first. In the first inning, Senior Matt French was leadoff batter. French started the Bulldogs off with a hit to the shortstop, but was thrown out at first.

Spencer Tuck was up next and had a hit to the pitcher, but he too was thrown out at first.

With two outs, Nicholas Deckard was up to bat and hit a powerhouse shot to left field. Deckard was safe on second. Dallas Greanead was fourth at bat for the Bulldogs and got a hit straight to third base, where the third baseman caught the out.

With the third out made, the Bulldogs took the field. Freshman Skyler Holden was pitching for the Bulldogs. #2 for the Devils had a good hit to left field where Zane Roberts was waiting to field the ball. #10 for the Devils was up next and also had a good hit and was safe on first. #14 for the Devils hit the ball to right field, but Spencer Tuck caught the ball to make the first out for the Bulldogs. #21 for the Devils had a hit to left field and received a double. #17 for the Devils also got a hit straight to Nicholas Deckard, but Deckard was unable to get the ball to make the out. #17 was safe on first base. #9 for the Devils hit an infield pop fly to Matt French where he made the second out for the Bulldogs.

#11 for the Devils was next up to bat. He hit a fly ball to left field to advance all runners to the next base. The Devils seemed to be on a hot streak. #22 came up to bat and had a good hit to left field where he also was safe at first. With the Bulldogs needing one more out, #5 was up to bat. He hit a shot straight to shortstop Nicholas Deckard. Deckard threw the ball to Matt French and French made the out at second base. At the end of the first inning, the score was Jackson Co. 4 and RBS Bulldogs 0.

The second inning went quickly for both teams. Brince Crouch was up to bat and with three strikes; the Bulldogs had their first out of the inning. Skyler Holden was next at bat and had a hard hit to third base, but was thrown out at first base. The pressure was on for Lucas Wheeler, the next batter for the Bulldogs. The pitcher threw three strikes, but on the third strike, the catcher dropped the ball. Wheeler ran to first base, but the catcher was still able to make the out at first base to make three outs. Jackson County’s #2 had a hit to right field where Spencer Tuck attempted to catch the fly ball, but dropped it.

With errors made by the Bulldogs, #2 had a homerun. #10 for the Devils had a hard hit to centerfield where Ty Tuck caught the ball to make the first out for the Bulldogs. #14 hit the ball to left field and was safe on first. A courtesy runner came in for #14. #21 for the Devils hit a straight shot to left field, but, once again, Zane Roberts made the second out for the Bulldogs. #17 for the Devils had a hit straight to third baseman Brince Crouch, who made the throw to first base to get the third out for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs held the Devils to only one run that inning with the score being Jackson Co. 5 and RBS 0.

The third inning batting order started with Ty Tuck for the Bulldogs. Ty hit a line drive down the third baseline and was safe on first. Next up was Alex Mullinex. With one pitch to Mullinex, Ty Tuck stole second base. With the next pitch to Mullinex, he hit a fly ball to second and was thrown out at first. Ty Tuck also got caught off second base and was also thrown out. With two outs, Matt French was up to bat. French had a hit to the pitcher. The pitcher seemed to bobble the ball and French was safe at first. Spencer Tuck was next in line to bat. With a couple of pitches thrown to Tuck, French stole second base.

The third pitch was thrown to Spencer Tuck and he hit the ball to second base. The Devils’ second baseman made the throw to first and made the third out. Jackson Co. was up to bat and #9 stepped into the batter’s box. As Skyler Holden pitched a fastball, he hit the player, and he advanced to first base. #11 for the Devils was next and got a hit to right field where Spencer Tuck was ready and did catch the ball to make the first out. #22 up next and Holden pitched a ball and #9 stole second base. Holden pitched another ball to #22, and he hit the ball straight to shortstop Nicholas Deckard, who made the throw to first to make the second out for the Bulldogs. #5 was up next. With one pitch, #5 hit a high fly to centerfield where Ty Tuck caught the third out. At the end of the third inning, the score was Jackson Co. 5 and RBS 0.

In the fourth inning, Nicholas Deckard tried to get the Bulldogs fired up with a fly ball to centerfield. The Devils were unable to catch it, and Deckard was safe on first base. Dallas Greanead was up next. He had a hit to the pitcher, but was thrown out at first base. Greanead did advance Deckard to second base. With Deckard watching the pitcher carefully, he stole third base as well. Brince Crouch was up next for the Bulldogs. Crouch bunted the ball and was thrown out at first. The Devils managed to hold Deckard on third. Skyler Holden was up next and got a hit that dropped between the shortstop and second baseman. Holden was safe on first and Deckard made it home to score the first run for the Bulldogs. Lucas Wheeler was next in line. Wheeler got a hit to centerfield. He was safe on first, and Holden advanced to second. Things seemed to be looking up for the Bulldogs. Next up was Ty Tuck. Tuck got a hard hit to left field and all players advanced to the next base and Ty Tuck was safe on first. With bases loaded, Alex Mullinex was up next. He hit the ball straight to first base. Unfortunately, Mullinex was out at first.

With three outs, the Bulldogs took the field once again. Jackson Co.’s #2 got a line drive to shortstop Nicholas Deckard. Deckard slid to catch the ball, but the player was safe on first. #10 got a hit to left field and was safe on first. With the Devils having runners on first and second base, #14 was up next. #14 got a hit and was safe on first. With bases loaded, #21 hit a fly ball to centerfield. Ty Tuck caught the out and bases remained loaded. #17 kept the momentum going for the Devils with a straight shot to left field. #17 got a double and 3RBI’s. #9 was next up to bat and got a hit to third base. Brince Crouch dropped the ball and #9 got a double. #11 hit the ball straight to the pitcher. With runners going to first and home, Holden attempted to get the out at home but was unable to. #22 hit a high fly ball to left field where once again, Zane Roberts caught the ball. With two outs, #5 hit a pop up at home plate and all runners were safe. With the score 10 to 1, in Jackson Co.’s favor, #2 hit a line drive to centerfield to advance the winning run. The final score of the game was Jackson Co. 11 and RBS 1.
