Four vintage vehicles in West Macon County were vandalized on Friday. The vehicles, belonging to John Atkins, were turbocharged Dodge Daytonas dating from ’86, ’87, and ‘89. Atkins has been collecting and working on the cars with the intention of gifting them to his children.
Atkins said the damages amount to at least $2,800. “My son came down to get my younger son and they had a few parts they took up the hill to put in the cars. Someone had knocked the majority of the windows out, and it looks like they jumped up and down on top of one of them. We can’t tell if they took anything but it looks like they took parts from inside of them threw them all over the property.
“Honestly, I don’t think it was anyone I know, because they left a trail of that stuff leading out into the woods. I think it was just some kids out here, goofing off, and they saw these cars and thought, ‘let’s mess those up’.”
Atkins is offering a reward of $500 for information that would lead to the apprehension and conviction of those responsible. Detective Darrell Taylor and Deputy Kimball Hall, who answered the police call, stated that if the responsible parties could be identified, charges would include trespassing and vandalism.
