The Macon County Tigers went to Friendship Christian School on Monday 4/30 to take on the 29 -1 and state ranked #7 Commanders, in a non district baseball match up. The big question had to be who was going to be intimidated by the Nationally ranked Commanders. And the answer was, not freshman pitcher Larkin Whittemore, who held the Friendship Christian squad to just five hits over six innings, while striking out five batters. unfortunately though the Tigers could only manage two hits of their own and committed five errors to aid the Commanders to a 6 - 0 victory over Macon County.
Friendship Christian took an early 1 - 0 lead in the first inning off an error and two out RBI single. They added two more runs in the second off a walk another error and a two out 2 RBI single. Friendship pitching retired Macon Counties first ten batters in order and the Tigers didn’t get their first hit until the fourth inning when sophomore Austin Craighead singled to become Macon Counties first baserunner. Junior short stop Ian Whittemore quickly followed Craighead with another single and with only one out the Tigers were trying to claw their way back in the game. But the Commanders kept composed and picked off Whittemore and caught a fly ball hit by Andrew Kempf to centerfield, to get themselves out of the inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Commanders put another two runs up after another Macon County error and a home run from their number nine batter in the line up.
All six of Friendship Christians’ runs came with two outs in four seperate innings, as the Tigers couldnt find a way to close out an inning without any damage. Ian Whittemore went 1 for 2 with a walk and Austin Craighead was 1 for 3 in the loss.
