Tuesday night was senior night as the Macon County Tigers hosted Gordonsville in the last game of the regular season. Senior Andrew Kempf was on the mound for the Tigers and Senior team manager Jessica Boone combined to hold the Gordonsville Tigers scoreless both on the field and in the books through the first inning of a game which featured the Tigers in their throw back uniforms.
Andrew Kempf fittingly enough made the most of his Senior Night both offensively and defensively as he put together a line that read only three hits allowed with five strikeouts and two walks pitching and batted 2 for 3 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBI’s as his Tigers won the game 10 - 5. After the Tigers of Gordonsville scored the first run of the game in the second inning, Andrew got the ball rolling for Macon County with a double and then a run scored off an error committed by the Gordonsville first baseman.
In the third inning the Macon County Tigers sent ten batters to the plate and scored half of them. Austin Craighead singled and Ian Whittemore doubled bringing Craighead home. Shane Hesson doubled and knocked in Whittemore, while Ryan Craighead, Jacob McClard, and Jacob Haley all singled adding three more runs to Macon County’s big inning. At the end of the third inning Macon Tigers were up 6 - 2.
Jacob McClard reached base on an E-5 and Jacob Haley singled to bring home McClard in the fifth inning to put the Tigers up 7 - 4. The sixth inning Austin Craighead led off with a double and Ian Whittemore singled. Andrew Kempf doubled and brought home two runs before he scored off a Ryan Craighead single adding three more runs to Macon County’s cushion 10 - 4. The Gordonsville Tigers could only score one run in the seventh and the game was final at 10 - 5.
Austin Craighead was 2 for 4, Ian Whittemore went 3 for 4, and Andrew Kempf was 2 for 3. Shane Hesson was hit by a pitch and 1 for 3, Ryan Craighead batted 2 for 4, and Jacob McClard went 2 for 4. Tyler Kemp was hit by a pitch and Jacob Haley was 2 for 3, as the Tigers ended the regular season on a high note looking forward to the district tournament.
