Buddy Poppies are assembled by disabled and needy veterans, who are compensated for their work.
VFW members distribute these throughout the community in order to obtain donations to contribute tot he Veterans of Foreign Wars Home for children of deceased or disabled veterans in Eaton Rapids, Michigan; the National VFW Rehabilitation Service in Washington, D.C.; to VFW rehabilitation service in Tennessee, and to direct assistance programs for needy and disabled veterans, active service members and their families in Macon County.
Annually, about 14 million Buddy Poppies are distributed nationwide, garnering approximately $11 million each year.
The proceeds are divided evening between national, state, and local charitable purposes.
The services made possible through this fundraiser are available to all needy veterans and active service members and their families, not just those who are members of the VFW.
