The Macon County Trap Team traveled to the Big Springs Shooting Complex in Christiana, TN on June 2 to compete in the TNSCTP Region II trap competition. Ninety-four squads with over four hundred and sixty five young shooters competed over two days to qualify for the TNSCTP state shoot to be held in Nashville June 23 and 24. At the close of the event, the Macon County team earned their 2nd straight invitation to compete in the state competition.

In the team competition, squad 1 finished 6th in the varsity division with a total score of 470 targets hit of 500. The team was led by Matthew Minchey with a score of 99, Alexis Bartley 95, Colton Kirby 92, Austin Mathews 92 and Tyler Knight 92. Squad 2 finished 17th overall in the varsity division with a total score of 436. Kelsey Cook led the 2nd squad with a 91 followed by Kelsey Bullington 89, David Richardson 89, Ryan Minchey 88 and John Tucker 79. Squad 3 closed things out finishing 6th in the junior varsity division with an overall score of 421. Dylan Brawner and Dalton Driver lead squad 3 both scoring 94 hits with Brock Rutan scoring 81, Eli Doss 78 and Jackson Sircy 74.

Individually, Alexis Bartley won the varsity ladies competition with a score of 95 targets hit with Kelsey Cook finishing fourth with a score of 91 and first year shooter Kelsey Bullington finishing 5th in the ladies varsity division with an 89. In the varsity men’s competition, Matthew Minchey finished 3rd hitting 99 out of 100 targets. In men’s junior varsity Dylan Brawner and Dalton Driver tied for third both hitting 94 of 100 targets thrown.

The competition at this level continues to improve and with eight new athletes competing on this year’s team, it was a very successful event for the program. Next for the team is the AIM State Competition coming up June 12 and 13 at the TN Clay Target Complex in Nashville.
