My name is Steve Walton, and I would like to announce my candidacy for re-election to the Macon County Board of Education as the representative for districts 9 & 10 in the August 7th Election.
As many of you know, I have been serving as the school board member for much of this area for the past six years, and I am now asking for your support as I run for a second four year term.
During these last six years I have been on the board, I feel we have made progress in many areas, and I will continue to work hard toward improving our school system for the benefit of our children. We need to see that we get value for the dollars spent, and are not just throwing money at a problem. We also need to make sure all the children are educated well and treated fairly, so that they are prepared for the “Real World” when they leave school.
Many of you know me; I am the son of Denton and Ann Holland Walton. I attended school here in Lafayette K-12, and I was the Valedictorian of the MCHS class of 1983. After High School, I graduated with Honors from UT Knoxville with a degree in Engineering, and for the last 21 years my wife and I have lived here in Lafayette. I currently work as a Project Engineer for a Food Processing Equipment company in Hendersonville.
I am married to the former Mary Thomas. She and her mother Ruby Thomas own and operate LG Cothron’s Grocery on Scottsville Road.
Mary and I have two children. Our daughter Katie just graduated with a BA from UT Knoxville, and our son Alex will be a freshman at UT Knoxville this fall.
I remain dedicated to making sure all our children get a good education. If re-elected, I promise to continue to work hard to see that everyone is treated fairly and our children have the opportunity to get a good education.
Your vote on August 7th would be appreciated. Thank you.
