The Red Boiling Springs High School Bulldog Football team began the 2012 season on a winning note, defeating the Bobcats of Pickett County by a score of 30-8.

The Bulldogs marked their first points of the contest on a 3-yd run by senior Eddie Alexander, midway through the first quarter.

The Red & Grey were 4 & 4 when the first quarter buzzer sounded, and opened the second period with another 3-yd scoring run by Alexander, thus granting the Bulldogs an early 12-0 lead over the Bobcats.

When five minutes marked the game clock, Bulldog quarterback Ty Tuck ran the football from midfield into scoring position. After the next play failed, RBS’ Kason Wix drove up the middle of the line of scrimmage for an 18-0 advantage.

Pickett County had finally worked their way down the field and into scoring position, yet the halftime deadline was quickly approaching. The Bulldogs denied Bobcat runner Reagan the chance to score, however a face mask penalty placed the football on the 3-yd line. With just enough time for one more play, Pickett County squandered their time away, along with a much needed score to end the first half of the game.

Bulldogs Jeffrey Nelson and Nick Butram racked up a hefty load of interior tackles in the first two periods, which did not lighten up in the remainder of the game.

Pickett County kicked off to start the third quarter, and a great returning dash by A.J. Dale placed the ball on the 41-yl. After a few plays, Red Boiling Springs needed a mere two yards to pick up a new set of downs, however they fumbled the ball, and the Bobcats recovered it at midfield.

Stepping up to shut down the next offensive plays were RBS’ C.J. Taylor, Dallas Greanead, and the rest of the Bulldog pack, thus cutting short the bit of luck Pickett County had received.

Red Boiling Springs was knocking on the door once again by the middle of the third quarter, and proceeded to come on in with a 2-yd run by Alexander. RBS 24, PC 0

Pickett County regained possession of the ball late in the fourth quarter, and completed a 26-yd pass to the end zone, marking their first points in the game. A successful 2-pt conversion followed, making the score 24-8.

The Bobcats quibbled the kick and Red Boiling Springs was able to place the football on the 50-yl, with less than two minutes marking the game clock. Pickett County denied the Bulldogs first attempt to gain a few yards, however on the second down, RBS’ A.J. Dale slipped through a hole in the middle of the field and made his way to the 24-yl before being tackled.

Bulldog Alexander was now playing in the quarterback position and after faking a punt play, ran the ball all the way to the end zone for the touchdown, and a 30-8 advantage.

Red Boiling Springs held Pickett County back for the remaining minutes of the game and picked up their first season win in Region 4A.

The Bulldogs will hit the road again next Friday night to face Mt. Juliet Christian. The last time these two teams met, RBS walked away with a 53-15 victory. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
