On Friday, the Macon County Tigers took on the White House Blue Devils. The Tigers would lose this game 35-7. Nothing was clicking for the Tigers in this game on offense or defense.
The first quarter actually looked pretty good. White House got the ball first, and the Tigers got a sack on the first play of the game! The Tigers almost held the Devils to a three and out, but a Devils’s fumble would bounce in the right direction, and allow White House to get the first down. White House would then drive down the field and score on a 12 yard touchdown run, making it 7-0.
In the second quarter, White House missed a field goal attempt of 40 yards, and the Tigers got the ball back. The Tigers were driven back to the 15, and then fumbled the ball. White House picked up the ball, brought it to the Tigers’ 10 yard line, and scored, making it 14-0. However, the Tigers would hold the Devils from scoring again before the half ended.
The third quarter was a terrible quarter. White House forced a three and out, and then scored a 35 yard touchdown. White House would get the ball back after another three and out by the Tigers, and scored again, making it 28-0. The Tigers had yet another three and out. Yes, when White House got the ball and attempted a long FG, the Tigers blocked it! However, they had another three and out. On four possessions in the third quarter, the Tigers had four straight three and outs.
The fourth quarter was primarily quiet. The Devils would throw a long TD pass which made it 35-0. However, the Tigers would score with 10 seconds left of the game, which stopped the blowout. The final score was 35-7.
Aaron Carter went 5-17 passing with 66 yards and 1 touchdown, and he would run 5 times for 9 yards. Shane Hesson ran the ball 20 times for 91 yards. Hesson also had 2 catches for 41 yards and a touchdown. Dale Turner led the team in tackles with 5.The Tigers had 196 total yards on 49 plays whereas White House had 366 yards on 47 plays. The Tigers had 6 penalties for 59 yards. They were 1-11 on third down and 2-4 on fourth down. Both teams had the ball for exactly 24 minutes, which is a very strange sight on the scoreboard.
The Tigers fall to 0-8 on the season, and will face Livingston next Friday night. The game will be at Livingston. The community needs to remember that a team isn’t defined by their record, but by how much heart they give on the football field. The Tigers are going to need fan support now more than ever. Go out and support your hometown Macon County Tigers!
