Two young people were arrested for possession of large amounts of marijuana on Monday afternoon after wrecking their vehicle on the Highway 10 hill. Miguel Calixto, 20, and Hollianna Story, 18, were traveling south on Highway 10 when their small red sedan ran off the right side of the road and made a complete 180-degree turn.

Witnesses advised officers at the scene that Calixto was seen retrieving a suspicious bag from the trunk of the vehicle before they’d arrived, then taking it by foot down in the wooded ravine next to the highway and returning empty handed.

Officers looked for the item, which Calixto admitted was marijuana but called a “small sandwich-size” bag, and were unable at first to locate it, even with the help of K-9 dog Gordy.

“We took a break and came back fresh,” said Sgt. Michael Veatch, “I said, ‘I just know there’s marijuana down there.’ This time the dog brought us over to a log, and it was stuffed down under there. Once again, we couldn’t have found it without the K-9.”

There was about a quarter pound of marijuana inside of a gallon zip-lock style bag, which had been stuffed inside a dry paper sack and hidden under the fallen tree. It had been raining that afternoon, and the bags were completely dry.

Once confronted about the bag and its contents, Calixto admitted to purchasing the marijuana in Kentucky for $500 and attempting to carry it back to South Carolina in order to sell the substance at a profit.

Calixto and Story had known each other as employees at Fuddruckers in South Carolina, and according to Calixto, he’d come to Kentucky to work tobacco. “Once he seen that tobacco wasn’t all that great,” said Officer Kimball Hall, who assisted with the wreck scene and arrests, “he decided to take a little something back with him to sell for spending money.” Story had driven from South Carolina to pick the young man up.

Hundreds of dollars of technology, including a surround-sound speaker system and several laptops, were also found in the vehicle; the origin of these items is under investigation.

Hollianna Story was charged with possession of Sch. 6 Marijuana (39-17-415 felony), and possession with intent for resale 39-17-417. Her court date is scheduled for January 2, and bail was set at $15,000.
