Veachel Howard Sexton, of the Brattontown Community in Macon County, was born on Tuesday, September 1, 1931, one of twelve children, to the late Lucian and Florence Stephens Sexton. He departed this life on Thursday morning, January 3, 2013 at the age of 81 years.
Funeral services for Veachel Sexton were conducted from the Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5th with Brother Jerry Netherton officiating. Interment followed in the Smith Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Compton, Trent Russell, Tony Russell, Lucus Dillon, Austin Dillon and DeWayne Holmes.
On March 21, 1970, he was married to the former Miss Florence Stephens, who preceded him in death on June 7, 2008. Veachel worked for General Motors in Detroit, Michigan for 31 years and was a member of the Sunrise Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents and wife of 38 years, he was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Ronald, Carl, Junior, Eugene and Roger; and 5 sisters, Inez Jackson, Ethel Compton, Gertrude Cross, Lorene Bowman and Reba Hesson. He is survived by sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Comer Russell of Lebanon.
