A man and woman were arrested and charged with promotion of methamphetamine, intent to manufacture methamphetamine, and two counts of child abuse/neglect in Red Boiling Springs on Thursday. Chester Leroy Loudy, 33, and Rachel Elisabeth York, 22, are each being held on a $50,000 bond and will be in court on January 9.

RBS officers Jimmy Morgan and Chief Terry Tuck went to the couple’s home at 203 Sunset Street after getting a tip that this was their current residence. “I’ve been watching them for a while due to their sudafedrin purchases,” said Morgan. The two officers walked around the home knocking on all doors and windows, but said that Loudy, who they saw through the window, refused to let them in.

In circling the home, they noticed several of the components used in methamphetamine manufacture in a trash can, and found all components for a one-pot method meth lab in a pile of tires.

“I identified myself and kicked open the back door,” said Morgan, “and I saw a small child standing in the doorway of the front room. Then I saw a small baby laying on a bed in the front room.”

Sgt. Michael Veatch of the Macon County Sheriff Department brought a K-9 to the location and ran it around the vehicle in the driveway. This was the same vehicle, incidentally, that Loudy was arrested for the theft of last week—it actually belonged to girlfriend York.

“They first refused to let us look in the car, but the car had a very strong odor of some type of fuel coming out from the interior. We finally convinced her to let us look, and found [these components] in the trunk of the car.”

York’s two children, aged five months and two years, were taken into DCS custody.
