Last Friday, the Macon County Tigers locked up with a struggling Westmoreland team. The Tigers didn’t play their best, but they still picked up the victory 39-32. Good defense made up for the Tigers’ slow offense.
The first quarter had Westmoreland scoring thirteen points. The Tigers came out and weren’t expecting the Eagles to shoot as well as they did. The Tigers were able to put up nine points in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Tigers put up ten points, all while holding the Eagles to four points. The Tigers took the lead at halftime 19-17.
The second half was closer than the Tigers might have wished. After putting up ten points in the third quarter, Macon County would allow a three to pump Westmoreland up. The score after three was 29-23. However, in the fourth quarter, the Tigers scored ten again. Westmoreland scored nine points. The final score was 39-32.
Trey McPherson led the Tigers in scoring with 13 points. Dalton Shrum had eight points. Tyler Clark and Peyton Clark both had seven points. Mayson Shrum and Aaron Carter both had two points.
The Tigers’ next game was against a very good Gallatin team. Gallatin proved to be just a little too much for the Tigers in the end, as Gallatin beat the Tigers 52-49. The Tigers would fall despite having eight three pointers in the game.
The first quarter was rough for the Tigers. The Tigers were only able to score eight points, while Gallatin scored twelve. The Tigers then came out in the second quarter and exploded for sixteen points! The score at half time was tied at 24!
The second half began well but eventually went south. They came out in the third quarter and put up fifteen points, and held Gallatin to ten points. At the end of three, the Tigers had the lead, 39-34. However, the fourth quarter proved to be the Tigers’ demise. They only put up ten points while allowing Gallatin to put up eighteen. The final score was Gallatin 52, Macon County 49.
Tyler Clark led the Tigers in scoring with twenty points. Clark also had five three pointers in this game! Trey McPherson had eleven points and a three. Peyton Clark had six points and two threes. Dalton Shrum had four points. Dillion McCormick and Mayson Shrum had two points each.
The Tigers’ next two games will be at home against Goodpasture on January 25th and Greenbrier on January 29th.
