Sweet T’s, a country-style restaurant in Westmoreland, celebrated its grand opening and new membership with the Macon County Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.

The restaurant is located at the corner of Hwy 52 Bypass West and 31E, where the Corner Cafe Truck Stop used to be. It actually opened its doors about a month ago, said General Manager DeeDee Yates, but has had a swift management change and is ready to start fresh.

“We had such a rocky start, but we just want people to know that we have totally different management here. We just hope we can get the support and make up for what happened in the first few weeks. We do have some really good staff here, and I’m grateful. They stuck it out before, when the old management was here.”

The restaurant has been tightened up, the staff has been handpicked and trained, and the menu has been renovated with all kinds of tasty southern items. They serve all-you-can-eat fried chicken and fish on the weekend buffet, as well as in-house barbecue and ribs, several daily vegetables, and pizzas made in-house. Yates also makes homemade lasagna on Saturdays, using an old family recipe from her Sicilian restaurateur grandfather. “You name it, we have it,” she said.

The restaurant has a brand new decor, as well, and keeps separate dining rooms for private parties, business meetings, etc. They plan to show UFC fights on Saturdays, also in a separate room, and hold poetry readings and singer/songwriter nights. “I want it to be for the community, for the community to use what we have,” Yates said.
