Freda Marie Brooks Pitchford, of Lafayette, was born in Monroe County, KY on November 10, 1939. She was one of five daughters born to the late Thomas Gifford and Bonnie Bray Brooks. She departed this life on March 7, 2013 at the age of 73 years.

Funeral services for Freda Pitchford were conducted on Saturday, March 9, 2013 from the Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Lafayette with Elder Don Curtis and Elder Charlie Patterson officiating. Interment followed in the Anderson & Son Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers were Roger Russell, Linda Dotts, Mike & Elaine Tatum, Billy Grissom, David Calvert, William Walton and Adam Hauskins. Pallbearers were Phil Smith, Ronnie Froedge, Billy Gregory, Nathan Gregory, Waylon Blankenship, Lane Driver and Lee Driver.

In September of 1960 Freda was married to Earl Gibson Pitchford, who survives. She had worked several years as a public health nurse in Hardinsburg and Allen County, KY, as well as the hospital in Allen County, KY. She later went to cosmetology school and became a licensed beautician. She was a member of the Gamaliel Missionary Baptist Church growing up and was saved at the age of 9. She later moved her membership to Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Laverne Gee and three brothers-in-law, Ronald Froedge, Sam Smith and Marvin Guthrie. Along with her husband of 52 years, she is survived a daughter, Kristen Marie Pitchford; a granddaughter, Xyla Adelaide Shook, both of Lafayette; sisters, Ann Froedge of Bowling Green, KY, Jane Smith of Tompkinsville, KY, and Wilma Guthrie of Franklin, KY; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews.
