HS basketball: MCHS, RBS girls' teams advance

Both of the county's high school girls' basketball teams -- Macon County and Red Boiling Springs -- won quarterfinal games Friday night in their respective region tournaments.

Red Boiling Springs, playing at home, beat Clay County 52-49 to advance in the Region 4-A tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs advance to a semifinal game and will play against the Clarkrange/Gordonsville winner Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Livingston Academy.

Macon County, playing at home, beat Hume Fogg 52-50 in the Region 5-AA tournament.

The Tigerettes advance to a semifinal game and will play against the East Literature/Goodpasture winner Monday at 6 p.m. at East Literature Magnet School.

Winners of Monday night's games are guaranteed to play at least two more games -- the region final and, win or lose, a sectional game with a spots in the state tournament at stake.
