She and twin brother Willie J. were born in Macon County, Tennessee on December 15, 1929 to the late William Bergie and Bessie Hickman Jenkins. Besides her parents; twin brother, Willie J. Jenkins; also preceded her in death.
Jessie Mae was married to Denver Ray Meador, sharing many wonderful years together and raising one son, Richard Jenkins Meador; Denver departed this life on April 5, 1990.
Jessie Mae was self-employed, owning and operating Meador’s Beauty Shop for many years, during this time she met a lot of wonderful people who she was proud to call her friends.
Later in life, Jessie Mae was fortunate to find love again, and on August 31, 2001, she was married to William “Jack” Leath. Jack preceded her in death in November of 2006, after sharing five wonderful years together.
Jessie Mae has always enjoyed gardening and being outdoors, so her and Jack enjoyed working on the farm and raising a garden together. When family and friends came to visit, she would enjoy taking then for a ride on the Kawasaki mule to see all her pretty flowers and garden, and to see her peafowls that she raised and referred to them as her “boys”. Then of course there was always “sox” her favorite cat that seldom left her side. Jessie Mae was loved by all who knew her.
Jessie Mae was saved as a teenage girl and was a member of the Long Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She was a great friend to many and was a loving mother, devoted sister-in-law and was the best, most wonderful aunt anyone could ever ask for. She will be greatly missed by all.
