The season opener for the RBSJH Bulldogs was with Smith Co, like the Lady Dawgs. The first game of the season for the Bulldogs turned out to be a great game; it put spectators on the edge of their seats.
Throughout the entire game, the Bulldogs hustled and never let up offensively or defensively. The first quarter, Elijah Bifield got a rebound and drew a foul making one of two foul shots. Chase Long and Josh Tirgin both got a steal and two points. Justin Bergdorff and John Russell also made two points each. At the end of the first half, the Bulldogs were down by one with a score of 16 to 15.
The second half, the Bulldogs came out with more determination than before. The third quarter, Bailey Anderson made a two point shot and drew a foul making the foul shot. Chase Long got a steal and drove down to make two more points at the buzzard. The Bulldogs had the lead at the end of the third quarter by four points. The fourth quarter, Elijah Bifield got his fifth foul of the game. Despite one of the starters fouling out, the Bulldogs didn’t ease up on the Owls. With an assist by Micheal Tirgin, Chase Long made another two points and Bailey Anderson got fouled again, making one of two foul shots. With 1:12, the Owls took the lead.
Both teams took a time out each. The RBS crowd was on their feet chanting “Bulldogs, Bulldogs”. With 55 seconds remaining, Micheal Tirgin made two points giving the bulldogs the lead. With 15.3 seconds left and the Bulldogs ahead by one point, the Owls had the ball. Going for a last second shot, the owls turned over the ball giving it back to the Bulldogs. Bailey Anderson got fouled. Anderson made one of two foul shots and extending the bulldog lead by two points. With 3.5 seconds remaining, the Owls dribbled down the court and shot the ball at the three point line. The ball went in after the buzzer and did not count. Both teams played hard, but the Bulldogs won with a final score of 32 to 30.
