A man in a wheelchair was killed almost instantly when he was hit by a car on Wednesday afternoon in Lafayette.

Dickie L. Donoho, age 59, was crossing Hwy 52 E in a motorized Pride Mobility Jazzy 614 wheelchair at around 4 PM. He crossed from north to south, near the intersection of Sneed Blvd and Hwy 52, in a no-crossing zone.

The wheelchair pulled directly into the path of a hunter green Honda Accord driven by 21-year-old Ryan A. Huse, who swerved to the left to avoid the impact, but was unable to do so. He struck the wheelchair.

Trooper Danny Fisher, who wrote the accident report, said the skid marks on the road confirmed Huse’s attempts to avoid the crash.

Donoho sustained massive head injuries and was transported to Macon County General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

There was debris scattered across this portion of Hwy 52 following the wreck, and it was shut down for a few hours as officers took information.
