Last Tuesday, the Macon County Tigers took on Greenbrier. The Tigers had a slow game offensively, but they made up for it on defense and defeated Greenbrier 32-28. A strong second half propelled the Tigers to victory.

The first half was slow for both teams. The Tigers put up seven points in the first quarter, while Greenbrier scored five. The second quarter was a little better for the Tigers, as they scored eight points. Greenbrier scored four, and Macon County had the lead at halftime 13-11.

The second half showed Macon County playing two steady quarters. Greenbrier would put up twelve points in the third quarter. However, Macon County would be able to put up nine points. The score after three quarters was 23-22 Greenbrier. The fourth quarter was all Macon County. As Greenbrier was only able to score five points, Macon County scored ten. Greenbrier began fouling Macon County late, and free throws propelled the Tigers to a 32-28 victory.

Eighteen of Greenbrier’s thirty-two points were three-pointers. Macon County only had one three pointer. Trey McPherson scored the three. He finished with eight points. Dalton Shrum led the team in scoring with fifteen points. Dillion McCormick and Aaron Carter both had three points. Tyler Clark had two points, and Peyton Clark had one point.

The Tigers’ next game was against Sycamore. The Tigers played a tough game, but they fell short of a victory, losing their game 38-34. The Tigers couldn’t get it going from beyond the arc.

The first half showed Sycamore coming out and dominating the Tigers inside. The Tigers couldn’t hit threes like they did earlier in the season. Sycamore played lockdown defense. Sycamore had the lead at the half.

In the second half, Sycamore continued their lockdown defense. The Tigers couldn’t get anything going offensively, and they ultimately lost the game 38-34.

The Tigers next game will be Senior Night on Tuesday, February 5. They will also play Friday, February 8th at Westmoreland.
