Mrs. Lucy Woodard, age 85, of the Difficult Community died at 3:40 a.m. Saturday morning February 23, 2013 at the Knollwood Manor in Lafayette following an extended illness.

Eld. Floyd Ferguson officiated at the 1 p.m. Monday afternoon February 25th funeral services from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens.

Born Lucy Irene Boze in the Defeated Creek Community on January 10, 1928 she was one of nine children of the late Clarence Fisher and Mamie Annie Dillehay Boze.

Siblings preceding her in death were June Shoulders, Marie Woodard, Dewitt, James and Prentice Boze.

In Rossville, Georgia on February 22, 1944 she was united in marriage to Defeated Creek Community native Thomas Bradley Woodard. He died November 12, 2008 at the age of 83 following over sixty four years of marriage.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Martha Woodard Armistead who died September 23, 2005 at the age of 58.

Mrs. Woodard and her husband owned and operated the B & L Grocery at Difficult for over fourteen years before retirement.

Her working career also included the former Carthage Shirt Corporation, W. E. Stevens Manufacturing Co. and Texas Boot Co.

She was a member of the Defeated Creek Missionary Baptist Church at Difficult.

Surviving is her daughter, Rebecca Anderson and husband Prentice of Difficult; sisters, Robbie Oldham and husband Joe of Carthage, Hilda Gray and husband Billy of Shelbyville; brother, Joe Boze and wife Mary Ruth Hailey Boze of Tanglewood; son-in-law, Freddie Armistead of the Bagdad Community; five grandchildren, Anita Stafford of Difficult, Melissa Shoulders and husband Bruce of Difficult, Jeff Thomas of Nashville, Sharon Bingham and husband Grant of Difficult, Penny Pelotto of South Carthage; ten great-grandchildren, Alicia and Jason Wills, Jimmy and Bridgett Austin, Michelle and Chad McGowan, Jonathan Shoulders, Jessica and Brandon Givens, Sarah, Brad and Adam Bingham; six great-great-grandchildren, Cailee Austin, Austin McGowan, Emily Givens, Lora and Olivia and A. J. Wills.

The family requests memorials to the Defeated Creek Missionary Baptist Church, The Alzheimers Foundation or the Smith County Cancer Fund.
