Agave's Mexican Restaurant plans to move into a new building next to Lafayette Pharmacy on Highway 52 by the end of 2020, with a patio, party room and additional parking space.

Lafayette's business climate has been trending toward growth in recent years, and the city is preparing to take the next steps with the upcoming Tiger Fuel convenience market and Agave's Mexican Restaurant's new location.

Tiger Fuel, owned by Jigar Patel, will be located at the site of the former Swifty gas station on Highway 52 West. Patel said that he was making sure his permits were in order as of April 2, and the previous structure was recently torn down.

Agave's is set to move to a property next to Lafayette Pharmacy on Highway 52 West, with manager José Perez estimating completion by the end of 2020.

"(Our new building) is going to be 7,000 square feet with a patio and party room," Perez said. "It's going to have better air conditioning and better parking. We needed more space and comfort for our customers."

Originally, the project was estimated to wrap this year, but the effort has been delayed. Perez has purchased the property, and designs for both the interior and exterior have been drafted.

According to Perez, blueprints for the building are almost ready to be sent to the city for approval, and the plan is for the restaurant to continue operating normally at the new location the day after the current one closes. Blueprints for an additional location in Westmoreland are almost finished as well.

"We are happy and excited to do this new project, and it would not be possible without our customers," Perez said. "The community has been very welcoming and so nice to us ... (we) thank (them) for letting us live the American Dream."
