RED BOILING SPRINGS -- The Red Boiling Springs Junior High girls basketball team pulled away late for a 43-31 victory over visiting Celina on Monday evening.

RBS trailed by a point entering the second quarter but surged out to a 20-17 lead by halftime as Kennedy Marshall, Bailey Massengille and De'Awndria Polk made 3-pointers in the second stanza.

RBS (3-1) led 20-15 entering the fourth quarter, and Marshall scored five of her game-high 15 points in the final period as the Red Boiling Springs defense limited Celina to just six points over the final six minutes.

Massengille and Polk backed Marshall's production with nine and eight points, respectively, followed by Josie Green (6 points), Chloe Powell (3) and Emma Woodcock (2).

RBS made six 3-pointers in the contest.

Celina's Madison Hayes scored a game-high17 points.

• The RBS boys led for most of the first half but faded late, suffering a 42-32 loss to Celina.

Red Boiling Springs guard Chris Hackney scored 12 of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter, helping his squad take a 14-11 lead into the second stanza.

Then, Hackney and Luis Ramirez made 3-pointers in the second period to help RBS take a 22-19 lead into the locker room at halftime.

However, RBS (1-3) scored just 10 points in the second half.

Colton Copas backed Hackney's production with six points, followed by Aubrey Link (3 points), Ramirez (3) and Riley Thompson (1).

Celina's Nate Adams and Lance Burchett scored 13 points.

Celina made 19 of 32 free-throw attempts.
