Red Boiling Springs High senior Chloe Kramer had two hits and scored two runs in Friday evening’s 16-0, four-inning victory over Clarkrange.

GORDONSVILLE -- The fourth-seeded Red Boiling Springs High softball team opened play in the District 6-A Tournament with an 11-5 loss to No. 5 seed Clay County last Thursday evening at Gordonsville High School.

The two teams split their regular-season contests, with each winning on the road. RBS claimed a 17-7 win on March 26, and Clay County captured a 4-2 victory at April 18.

On Thursday, Clay County took control with a four-run second inning and then erupted for five more runs in the fourth.

RBS took the early lead as sophomore Jasmine Pruitte drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first inning and scored when classmate Reyna Ruiz reached on an error.

Senior Allison Deckard -- a Motlow State Community College signee -- followed with a double to drive in Ruiz.

However, Clay County scored the next 11 runs, adding two in the top of the fifth to create a nine-run margin.

Pruitte reached on an error in the bottom of the fifth and scored.

Then, senior teammate Kylie Birdwell reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the sixth and scored when Pruitte singled.

Pruitte crossed the plate for the third time when senior Maribel Mireles reached on an error.

RBS was outhit by an 11-6 margin. Ruiz provided two hits.

The two teams combined for 10 errors and also combined to leave 17 runners on base.

• Red Boiling Springs kept its season alive with a 16-0, four-inning rout of Clarkrange on Friday evening at Gordonsville.

The game ended after four innings of play due to the 15-run, mercy rule.

RBS won both regular-season meetings between the two teams, by scores of 12-3 and 14-4.

Mireles tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out four hitters in the third meeting.

Pruitte doubled to lead off the bottom of the first, and Mireles followed with a single. Ruiz drove in Pruitte with a groundout, and Mireles scored later in the frame.

Deckard's two-run double highlighted the four-run second inning. Pruitte and Mireles scored again in the frame, and Ruiz and Deckard crossed the plate as well.

Lady Bulldog senior Kara Davis singled in a third-inning run and scored, and senior Chloe Kramer singled and scored in the third as well. Birdwell also crossed the plate in the frame as the lead swelled to 9-0.

Deckard drove in two more runs in the fourth inning with a triple, and freshman Nautica Goolsby singled in a run. Birdwell, Deckard, Goolsby, Kramer, Mireles, Ruiz and senior Kameron Clark all scored in the fourth.

Mireles finished with three hits and scored three runs. Deckard had two hits, drew two walks, scored two runs and drove in four runs, and Kramer provided two hits and scored twice.

RBS improved to 10-11.
