WOODBURY -- The Macon County High School girls basketball squad pulled away in the second half of Friday evening's 58-43 victory at Cannon County.

It was the third meeting between the two teams this season, with both of the earlier contests taking place in Lafayette. The Tigerettes claimed 72-51 win on Dec. 7 and then a 62-39 victory on Dec. 29 in the championship game of the Nera White Christmas Tournament.

On Friday, Macon County made four 3-pointers in the first quarter but led just 16-14 at the end of the period and 28-25 at halftime.

Junior guard Keeley Carter scored 7 points in the third quarter as the Tigerettes took a 44-32 lead into the fourth period.

Macon County made 10 of 11 free throws in the final period to help seal the win.

The Tigerettes shot 46 percent from the field and made 15 of 17 free-throw attempts.

The Lady Lions converted 34 percent of their field-goal attempts.

Carter finished with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, and sophomore teammate Jalynn Gregory provided 17 points.

Sophomore Abby Shoulders scored 10 points, and Jamie Ashburn and McKaylee Mix produced 6 and 4 points, respectively. Mix also grabbed 8 rebounds.

Anna Grace Sissom led Cannon County offensively with 12 points, and Jessie Kauffman scored 12 points.

• Fifth-ranked Macon County built a first-half lead in Monday evening's 60-43 victory at Livingston Academy.

The Tigerettes rolled to a 67-37 win when the two teams played in Lafayette on Dec. 11.

On Monday, Macon County (21-5 overall, 10-1 in District 8-AA) led 14-8 after one period of play and 30-14 at halftime.

The Tigerettes forced 17 turnovers and shot 43 percent from the field, compared to 34 percent for the Lady Wildcats.

Macon County also outrebounded the host squad by a 36-28 margin.

Shoulders led the Tigerettes offensively with 15 points, and Gregory provided 14 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 assists.

King scored 13 points, and Carter finished with 10 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists.

The rest of the Macon County scoring is as follows: Taylor Ward 3 points, Ashburn 2, Mix 2 and Breia Crouch 1.

Sophomore Hailey Cronk led Livingston Academy (9-18, 2-9) offensively with 14 points.

The Tigerettes host York Institute on Friday.
