Charles Bray

Charles Richard Bray, 76, of Lafayette, passed away on Oct. 29, 2019, at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin.

He was born on July 11, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Ben Alexander Bray and Turye Lee Newman Bray.

Charles was a member of Long Fork Missionary Baptist Church.

He was a 1963 graduate of Macon County High School.

Charles married the love of his life, Ruth Joyce Vinson, on July 27, 1963. They were blessed with three children and more than 41 years together before her passing on Oct. 17, 2004.

Along with his parents and wife, Charles was also preceded in death by: his sister, Elsa Clark; and niece, Debra Clark.

Charles was known locally for being a businessman, but his character was generosity. Charles had a grand personality and never met a stranger. He treated everyone like family.

When Charles' title changed to Papa, his grandchildren never had a doubt that they were loved.

Charles is survived by: his sons, Chuck Bray (and wife, Beth), Alex Bray (and wife, Kindra); daughter, Shae Bray; grandchildren, Ty Gammons, Trevor Gammons, Alisson Bray, Madison Bray, Joshua Bray, Laurel Bray, Seth Bray; brother, Larry Bray; and sisters, June Driver and Shelia Dixon. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services were conducted on Nov. 1, 2019, from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home, with Jerry Ramsey officiating. Interment followed in Macon County Memorial Gardens.
