Clavis Gene Brawner

Clavis Gene Brawner, 84, of Lafayette, passed away on April 21.

He was born in Macon County on Aug. 18, 2019, to the late Louill Simpson Brawner and Bonnie Goad Brawner.

Gene was a veteran of the United States Army and worked as a tire builder for Pirelli for more than 25 years, retiring in September of 1996.

He enjoyed fishing, pitching horse shoes, shooting pool and playing corn hole, and he spent many a day at the senior citizens center doing these things.

Gene loved listening to music and watching old comedy shows.

He had a testimony of being saved by God's grace on June 11, 1989, while attending Old Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Gene was also preceded in death by: one son, DeLayne Joshua Brawner, and two brothers, Henry Odean Brawner and Dewey Eldred Brawner.

He is survived by: his wife, Betty Payne Brawner of Lafayette; sons, Brandall (Priscila) Brawner of Gallatin, Michael Nevitt of Pensacola, Florida; daughter, Susan (David) Osborne of Bethpage; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Brawner, Lena Brawner, Brooksie Brawner, Gavin Brawner, Jarod Osborne, Jason Osborne, Felipe Pugliese; brother, Dwight "Ike" (Christine) Brawner of Lafayette; and sisters, Cleopas Sloan of Lafayette, Melvie (Allen) Dilk of Indianapolis, Evelyn Bandy of Indianapolis, and Rita Brawner of Maidsville, West Virginia. Many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.

Funeral services were conducted on April 27 from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home, with Jeff Blackwell officiating. Interment followed in Haysville Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: nephews, Wayne Brawner, Scotty Brawner, Zach Brawner, and Eric Brawner; granddaughter, Jennifer Brawner; and son-in-law, David Osborne.

Honorary pallbearers were: nephews; Chris Atkins, David Delk, Zeke Brawner, and Robby Payne; and grandson, Jason Osborne.

Obituary was submitted by the family.
