Red Boiling Springs Elementary has a few things to be proud of this year, including being awarded for their students growth on Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) testing during the 2022-2023 school year.
“Our kids earned the Reward School status,” said RBS Elementary Principal Leslie Goad. “I don’t know about prior to me being here, but this is the first time we have been awarded since I’ve been here, for the last three years.
“When I made the announcement, it was pure joy for the kids. The kids were excited, and there were some teachers in the office turning some things in and their reaction was just as priceless. Overjoyed, excited, thrilled, all of that. A lot of hard work went into achieving this award. We spent the school year prior to this award digging deep into our data, and looking at what we needed to do to improve.”
Goad says it was nice to see the payoff for everyone’s hard work and dedication.
“We will have a banner to display outside of the school in honor of winning the award,” said Goad. “We will also have digital banners for posting on our websites. I do plan to celebrate with the teachers once everyone has gotten over being sick. We have had a lot out sick lately. It was truly a surprise when we learned that we had won.”
In addition to the award, RBS Elementary now has the use of a brand new gym.
“It is just amazing,” said Goad. “Our students were so excited to finally be in there.”
Aside from the positive happenings, RBS Elementary also had quite the scare when a parent apparently tried to gain access into the school on the high school side without permission. Both sides went into lockdown mode on Feb. 29.
“There was a disgruntled parent who came and tried to gain access into the building and as soon as that happened we immediately went into lockdown,” said Goad. “It was during a transition time of the day, and students were loading buses, we had kids going to pickups, and it wasn’t one of those nicely packaged parts of the day when everyone was where they were supposed to be. It was handled very quickly and we put all kids into safe places and stayed there until the lockdown was lifted.”
Goad says the quick thinking by the staff, and the student cooperation during the ordeal was amazing, as were the quick actions of SRO officers, so that within a minute, everything was as it should be during lockdown.
“I have full confidence in our staff, students and SRO officers,” said Goad.
